At Hotel Viking in Viserbella di Rimini, one evening a week in summer, usually Thursday, dinner moves into the garden: the grilled meat, cooked in front of the guests, becomes the main course, while the pasta on the menu and the vegetable buffet stay.
01Every Thursday in summer, a grill night in the garden
One evening a week in summer, usually on Thursday, dinner at Hotel Viking moves outdoors: we light the grill in the garden and prepare a big Romagna-style grill, cooked in front of the guests. We do it weather permitting and if the evening does not clash with other events.
In exceptional cases the barbecue is held on the beach, 150 metres from the hotel. It is the evening many guests look forward to most: we eat together under the trees, with a glass of local wine, while the children play close by, safe in the fenced garden.
02The grilled meats
On the grill we put many kinds of meat: the famous Romagna sausages, spicy chicken wings, picanha, giant frankfurters, pork ribs, roast beef and more. We choose them each time, based on what the market has to offer at that moment.
The meat is cooked to order, in front of the guests, in the corner of the garden we have fitted out especially, with grills, a sink and room for the equipment. So it reaches the table hot and freshly made, one round after another.
03Piadina, side dishes, pasta and watermelon
With the meat come tomatoes, salad, roast or fried potatoes, bread and piadina, to fill with a sausage straight off the grill. The pasta on the menu stays too, such as spaghetti with garlic, oil and chilli, and pizza from the oven.
To finish, a nice slice of fresh, very sweet watermelon, to the delight of young and grown-up sweet tooths alike. Those who don't eat meat will find the vegetable buffet and the pasta on the menu, suitable for vegetarians and vegans too.
04Outdoor tables under the trees
Eating outdoors under the trees, with a nice glass of wine and a piadina with sausage: what more could you want? The tables are laid on the garden terrace, in the shade of the trees, a few steps from the pool.
The children finish eating and run off to the games, table tennis and table football, always within sight of their parents. For families it is an easy, cheerful evening without having to leave the hotel: for all our services for children, see the family hotel.
05How it works with half board
For guests on half board, full board or all inclusive, the barbecue is included: that evening the grill replaces the main course, while the pasta on the menu and the vegetable buffet stay. There is nothing to book and nothing extra to pay.
If the weather does not allow it, dinner is in the dining room as on every other evening. If you have allergies or intolerances, tell us when you arrive: our Romagna kitchen will prepare an alternative. To choose your board, see the offers.
06Since 2015, a Viking tradition
Not many hotels in Rimini and on the Riviera offer a barbecue in the garden. We have done it regularly since 2015; before that we held it now and then, then it became a fixture. Here the grill is sacred, as well as delicious.
After dinner the evening carries on in the garden: a coffee or an amaro at the bar, open until midnight, the lounge under the pergola and chats between guests who may have met that very evening.
