01The wines of the Rimini hills
Behind the Riviera, between the Valmarecchia and the Valconca, the hills are covered in vineyards. The wine from this area has its own appellation, the DOC Rimini (until 2022 it was called “Colli di Rimini”), which includes:
- Sangiovese, the red wine of Romagna, also in Superiore and Riserva versions;
- Rebola, Rimini’s signature white, made from Grechetto gentile grapes, dry or as a sweet passito: it is already mentioned in a notarial deed from 1378;
- Biancame, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Rimini Rosso and Bianco.
Sangiovese is also produced under the DOC Romagna: three of its subzones are in the province of Rimini, Coriano, San Clemente and Verucchio.

04Wine at Hotel Viking
Every winter we visit local wineries, such as Cantine San Valentino, Tenuta di Saiano, Tenuta Mara, Tenuta Carbognano and Tenuta Mancini, to taste the new wines and choose the ones for our tables. You’ll find them at dinner, alongside the Antonioli family’s Romagna cooking, and at the bar for an aperitivo.
A tip: if you’re visiting a winery, choose a designated driver and let them have just a taste.

More flavours of the hinterland: wineries and wine · olive mills and oil · formaggio di fossa and squacquerone · cured meats and meat. The villages to visit are on our Rimini hinterland page.
